The Project

What we built, and why.

Smith & Wollensky is one of New York’s best-known steakhouse names, and its Kuala Lumpur restaurant brings that heritage to the city — the Swinging Tomahawk, the Signature Seafood Tower, the Gigantic Chocolate Cake and a serious wine list.

The site had to feel unmistakably Smith & Wollensky while working for local diners: what is on the menu, how to book, and how to host a private event.

Design Process

How we approached it.

We let the brand’s heritage set the tone — strong type, rich photography, the signature dishes as the stars — and kept the practical layer ruthlessly simple: menu, reservations, private events, news.

The Malaysian context is explicit throughout, so a visitor never wonders whether they have landed on the New York site.

Development

Build highlights.

  1. Signature-dish showcase

The Swinging Tomahawk, Seafood Tower and Chocolate Cake given room to sell the visit.

  2. Menu pages

Steak, wine and the full menu, kept current by the restaurant team.

  3. Private events

A dedicated route for group and corporate dining.

  4. Reservations

A booking call to action within reach on every page.

  5. News & events

Offers, recipes and events published from the CMS.

Problem Solving

Challenges and solutions.

01 Challenge

Carrying an international brand while staying local.

Diners know the name from New York; they need to know this is the Kuala Lumpur restaurant.

01 Solution

Brand cues, local facts.

The Smith & Wollensky look carries the page; the address, hours and Malaysian news anchor it in KL.

02 Challenge

Separating diners from event organisers.

A couple booking dinner and a company planning a function need different next steps.

02 Solution

Two clear paths.

Reservations sit on every page; private events have their own section and enquiry route.

Outcome

Results and impact.

The KL restaurant has a site that sells the experience and steps aside when it is time to book. Diners reach reservations in a tap, and event organisers reach the right team with the details they need.

Takeaway

Final thoughts.

“A steakhouse sells anticipation. The website should make you hungry before it asks you to book.”

With a brand this established, the job was restraint: let the dishes and the name do the work, and make booking effortless.
