The Project

What we built, and why.

Visionary Colour grades commercials, music videos and feature films, for clients that include Netflix, OPPO and Astro Shaw. Alongside the studio it teaches colour grading and sells the tools colourists use — so the website is a portfolio, an academy and a store at the same time.

Every visitor to this site looks at frames for a living. The pages had to hold up to that scrutiny before a single word was read.

Design Process

How we approached it.

We treated the homepage as a showreel: full-bleed video first, a dark palette that lets the colour carry the page, and type that stays out of the image’s way.

The three businesses are separated by intent. Producers go to Works, students to the Academy and colourists to the Shop — each a clear path from the same opening reel, so no audience has to wade through another’s content.

Development

Build highlights.

  1. Membership & Authentication

Secure sign in / sign up, including password recovery and instructor registration portals.

  2. Video Content Delivery

High-quality portfolio streaming for commercial projects — Netflix, OPPO, Astro Shaw.

  3. Subscription Management

Newsletter subscription integration with spam folder verification notices.

  4. E-Commerce Integration

A store module for selling courses and digital assets.

Problem Solving

Challenges and solutions.

01 Challenge

One homepage, three very different visitors.

A producer hiring a grade, a student choosing a course and a colourist buying tools each decide within seconds whether the site is for them.

01 Solution

Open on the work, then route by intent.

The reel comes first; Works, Academy and Shop follow as distinct paths that never mix their content.

02 Challenge

Delivering high-quality video without a slow site.

A grading portfolio lives or dies on picture quality, and self-hosted video is heavy.

02 Solution

Stream from the platforms built for it.

Showreels play from Vimeo and YouTube, keeping the site fast while the footage stays at full quality.

Outcome

Results and impact.

Visionary Colour runs its portfolio, academy and store from one site that looks like its work. Students sign up and reach course content behind member accounts, colourists buy grading tools from the shop, and producers see the reel first.

Works, courses and products are managed by the studio in the CMS.

Takeaway

Final thoughts.

“When every visitor judges frames for a living, the website is the first piece of work they review.”

We built the site to be watched as much as read: the reel leads, and the academy and the shop follow in the same grade.

Your platform could be the next one we write up.
